Joe Thomas is president of the Arizona Education Association (AEA). He’s busy showing teachers how to get more money. He claims to be a champion of Arizona’s school kids and their poor– financially that is– teachers.
Joe is paid by the union. He received more than $400,ooo.oo in compensation from 2011 through 2016 according to the most current union records.
What are the teachers getting for all of the union dues they pay? Well, they got Joe’s organizing experience and created a 6-day strike which coincided with the signing of the already approved budget which provides a 20% raise over three-years. The kids lost six days in class.
The union doesn’t spend much on working to get better compensation and benefits for their members. 75-cents of every dollar collected goes directly into union official’s salaries and other compensation, folks like Joe.
How much of the union resources can be supporting members?
Joe should be able to tell teachers where their dues money goes, but nobody is asking him.
