LEGAL GUN OWNERSHIP IS NOT EASY

Facts are good to know when a frenzied public reaction is underway. Here are some basic facts about firearm possession in America.
Basically, to legally own a firearm in America requires that a person live a life free of criminal conduct. Certain convictions or conditions will make a person ineligible to purchase a firearm.
There are basically 3 types of firearms:
An “automatic” firearm (gun) is designed to fire (shoot) rounds (bullets) from a magazine (reservoir) at a pre-set rate (firing rate) whenever the trigger (a small lever arm which, when pulled, causes the weapon to fire) is pulled and held in the firing position (not released).
A “semi-automatic” firearm is designed to fire a single round from a magazine each time the trigger is pulled and released. The firing rate is determined by the rate at which the trigger is pulled, released, and pulled again.
A “single shot” firearm is designed to fire one pre-loaded round when the trigger is pulled and released. After each shot another round must be manually loaded into the firearm.
LEGALLY possessing any firearm is a matter of completing a Firearms Transaction Record required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Before completing the transaction the seller will conduct a National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) which will determine if the buyer is eligible to buy.
Any additional state law requirements, which vary from state to state, must then be met, and the sale is complete. . . UNLESS the weapon is automatic, in which case there are many more requirements to be met.
Anyone who has possession of illegally obtained firearms , aka criminals, will not be affected by making gun laws more strict than they already are because they get their guns on the black market, or they steal them from lawful owners.
