It is not obvious what business it is of the United Nations, but the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of  African Descent issued a report stating that America owes citizens of  African descent reparations for incidents of mistreatment up to the present day.

The group asserts that the reparations are due because of the disadvantages caused by 245 years of mistreatment, and that the US has not confronted its legacy of racial terrorism. For example, “Contemporary police killings and the trauma create reminiscent of the past racial terror of lynching.”

The group suggests that the reparations could come in the form of educational opportunities, psychological rehabilitation, cancellation of debts, and formal apologies.

The report links history with present injustices. “In particular the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the US remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of  African descent.”

FACT: Six generations (152 years) ago slavery was abolished in America. The most recent parental ancestor of anyone living today would be their Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandparent.

FACT: The US has officially apologized for participating in the practice of slavery.

FACT: Equal educational and employment opportunities have been guaranteed since 1964.

FACT: The 14th amendment granted all rights of citizenship to former slaves.

FACT: The 15th amendment gave voting rights to every citizen  regardless of  race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

FACT: People of  African descent represent 12% of the US population and 39.8% of all US welfare recipients. (This is, logically, a form of reparations).
