JEFFERSON SAID DRAIN THE SWAMP?

Our third President, Thomas Jefferson, wrote the following regarding the difficulties he anticipated would hamper the successful establishment of The Constitution:
- “Among the most formidable of the obstacles which the new Constitution will have to encounter … a certain class of men in every State [who] resist all changes which may hazard a diminution of the power, emolument, and consequence of the offices they hold… and the perverted ambition of another class of men, who…hope to aggrandize themselves by the confusions of their country…. “(Federalist No. 1)
- In today’s Dumb-Downed English I think the translation would be something like this:
- “The Big Government bureaucrats in every state will oppose anything that threatens their power, money, or prestige. Others will fight to preserve the bewildering confusion caused by government red tape. Such people have created a Swamp which ought to be drained.”
