President Ronald Reagan expressed the matter of international trade this way:

The winds and waters of commerce carry opportunities that help nations grow and bring citizens of the world closer together. Put simply, increased trade spells more jobs, higher earnings, better products, less inflation, and cooperation over confrontation. The freer the flow of world trade, the stronger the tides for economic progress and peace among nations.”

So why should non-Liberals be concerned about the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that makes Obama look like a Reaganite? Shouldn’t non-Liberals agree with him on this issue?

No. And here’s why:

1) It has non-trade related Human Rights regulations which the U.S. has not examined and ratified.

2) It gives too much power to the president.

3) Its Anti-Dumping regulations are weighted against the U.S.

4) It is tied to the Trade Adjustment Allowance (TAA) which is built upon the myth that trade causes job losses. [Congressional Liberals defeated the TPA because they, along with their crony labor unions, do believe that trade does cost American jobs].

So fear not, opposition to the TPA does not make you a Liberal.
