TWO THINGS: GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS
Posted in Uncategorized by Baba - Jan 22, 2017
Government is not the same thing as politics.
Government is necessary because people cannot live peacefully together without certain restrictions on their freedom to do whatever they want.
In a social construct, like a tribe, village, nation, club, etc., if there are no restrictions on individual behaviour, if anything goes, then inevitably some some people will victimize others, and some people will be victimized by others. We need government.
Politics is the mechanism which makes government possible. Without politics there would be no way to provide the staff necessary to operate the government. And here’s where the plan gets complicated.
In America’s past it has been politicians who operate the government (a Representative Republic… not a Democracy).
Last Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, a non-politician was sworn-in as America’s 45th POTUS. He had to engage in politics to become President, but he is not a politician.
Congress makes the laws. The Supreme Court maintains fidelity of those laws to The Constitution of the United States. The President manages the orderly implementation of the laws.
Not one of the three branches of America’s government must necessarily be staffed only by politicians.
Every American is aboard and we have embarked on a new course with a new Master and Commander at the helm.
