SENATOR DEFIES TRADITION/PROTOCOL
Posted in Uncategorized by Baba - Jan 12, 2017
Never before has a sitting U.S. Senator actively testified against a fellow Senator for confirmation of a cabinet position.
Why did Sen. Booker (D-NJ) become the first to break a long-standing D.C. tradition? What is he after?
Does he think his testimony will help save America from the effects of a racist Attorney General? Well, the reality is that Republicans need 51 votes to confirm Sessions, and they have 52 Senators so the likelihood of non-confirmation is very slim.
So what is he up to? Here are some theories:
“Booker is putting partisan politics over legitimate concerns with his stunt… this is just the latest desperate attempt to derail the inevitable and avoid the reality that Americans rejected their liberal ideas on Election Day.” Congressman Chris Collins (R-NY)
Booker is making a purely political play to divide Republicans. “… to drive a wedge between Trump’s views on key issues and those of Sessions,” Howard Schweitzer.
Booker’s name has been floated as a potential front-runner to lead the presidential bid in 2020. Publicity is likely a big motivator. Schweitzer said Booker is, “… using his testimony to cement support among the Democratic activist/populist wings of the party as he considers a 2020 presidential run.”

NOTE: Booker served as mayor of Newark, NJ from 2006-2013. His core goal was crime reduction. Today Newark is #20 on the list of the nation’s highest crime rates.
