What could be worse? In an election year your party is facing an opponent who has very substantial support from Americans across the spectrum. This opponent is self-funded and has a long record of victories in hard-fought battles. How can you weaken this challenger’s chances of victory?

Wait. What could be better? No problem. His own party will do everything they can to eliminate him!!All you need to do is sit and watch.

The GOP finds itself in a position where they need to limit opposition to, and even to promote, their opponents interests (winning the White House).

Imagine a sports coach who gives-up an all-but-certain victory in the Super Bowl because he benches his all-star, game-winning quarterback for being a “loose cannon”. That’s what the GOP is doing. They have a chance to give fans what they have clearly expressed a desire for (a victory in 2016), but they are choosing to take the player who can make that happen out of the game.

The GOP is currently in a frenzy, not to win the election, but to be sure Trump does not win the election.
