A CASE STUDY IN FALLACIES OF LOGIC, by Mitt Romney.

Every Logic and Rhetoric teacher in America can glean material from the script of today’s intended coup de grace delivered by the GOP’s hired gun Mitt Romney. Fresh from his humiliating defeat at the hands of Barack Hussein Obama in 2012, Romney put on the “mitts” and started swinging as if there was an opponent in the ring with him.
What a delight it must be for the Liberal camp to have their speeches made for them. Speeches meant to improve the chances of putting yet another Liberal in the White House would normally come from the Liberal spin factory at great cost, but today’s character assassination was compliments of the Republican establishment. Strange bedfellows indeed.
Anyway, here are nine direct quotes from the loser of the 2012 Presidential election, Mitt Romney:
1. If Donald Trump’s plans were ever implemented, the country would sink into a prolonged recession. [This is a classic example of an Appeal to Authority: A fallacy where an assertion is deemed true because of the position or authority of the person asserting it. Romney offers nothing more than his position (?) and authority (?)in support of the assertion].
2. Trump’s bombast is already alarming our allies and fueling the enmity of our enemies. Insulting all Muslims will keep many of them from fully engaging with us in the urgent fight against ISIS.
[A classic Appeal to Consequences: A fallacy where the conclusion is supported by a premise that asserts positive or negative consequences from some course of action in an attempt to distract from the initial discussion].
3. I’m afraid that when it comes to foreign policy he is very, very not smart.
[This is called an Ad hominem: A fallacy where the arguer, rather than the argument, is attacked personally].
4. Donald Trump lacks the temperament of be president.[Another ad hominem. Nothing Trump has said or done has proven his temperament to be suitable, or unsuitable, for the job of POTUS].
5. Dishonesty is Trump’s hallmark: [Another ad hominem fallacy of logic. Trump’s policies are the subject, not Trump’s honesty or dishonesty].
6. A Trump nomination enables her (Hillary’s) victory.[In Logic this is called a Faulty Generalization: A fallacy of defective induction where a conclusion is reached using weak premises. How can Romney know Trump’s nomination will cause Hillary’s election?]
7. There are a number of people who claim that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake. [Another classic fallacy called Argumentum ad Populum: Mitt claims Trump is a con man, a fake because many people believe it to be so].
8. Mr. Trump is directing our anger for less than noble purposes. [This fallacy is called a Faulty Generalization: Mitt uses defective induction where a conclusion is reached using weak premises. Romney claims to know by induction (?)that The Donald’s motives are nefarious?]
9. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. [Romney’s fourth Ad Hominem fallacy.]
