YELLOW JOURNALISTS CAUGHT RED HANDED

First, the verified facts:

“Dr. Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit. In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He can’t remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carson’s performance as ROTC City Executive Officer. He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors. They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission.” — Barry Bennet, Carson’s campaign manager.

Now, here’s what POLITICO blogged:

The original version of the POLITICO story claimed that Carson admitted that part of his inspirational personal story was fabricated, specifically his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Fortune magazine took the unchecked Politico story and hurriedly published this headline article:

“Ben Carson Just Admitted to a Serious Lie.”  Later they softened the headline to: “Ben Carson Just Admitted to a Serious Fabrication”. And, finally, they removed any accusation of lying. BUSTED!

The yellow journalism folks at Politico eventually changed their story to make it their opinion about Carson’s “clear implications.” Suddenly we have words like “opinion” and ‘implications” replacing words like “lies” and “fabrications”. Once their yellow feet were held to the fire the Politico assassins admitted that “Carson never explicitly wrote that he had applied for admission to West Point, although that was the clear implication of his claim…” BUSTED!

Another ethically-challenged Liberal blog, called The Young Turks. piled-on with their fabricated post saying, “Carson Admits He Lied About Scholarship.” BUSTED!

The Society of Professional Journalists, in their Rules of Ethics say this:

Ethical journalism should be accurate and fair. Journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.
Journalists should take responsibility for the accuracy of their work, verify information before releasing it, and use original sources wherever possible.
