Once upon a time in a far away universe there was a planet. On this planet was a particular nation that had been leading the planet in industry, technology, and guaranteeing freedom of its citizens to pursue life, liberty, and happiness for 244 years.

Then a group of citizens decided it would be better to do-away with many of the restrictions which existed to ensure domestic tranquility and to administer justice to wrongdoers. These disgruntled masses figured it would be nice to not be constrained by rules and regulations. Their efforts to overthrow the system had always met with failure until someone suggested they could create a frighteningly vicious animal to make the people who liked the nation as it was to accept their New Order.

The beast was just what they wanted. It respected no authority and struck fear into the people by relentless rioting, looting, even killing.

Strangely, the leaders of many cities did nothing to protect their people, in fact it seemed many leaders were helping the beast ravage their cities. Many believed those leaders were part of some top-secret group of elitists.

The top-secret group who created and fed the beast were pleased with the unprecedented destruction their monster was causing. In fact, the beast seemed to be so powerful and self-sustaining that it prompted someone to ask what the plan was to put the beast away once their new order was established. No one had given that any thought and there was no way to re-train the beast now that it had begun its programmed duty.

So, the beast could not be controlled– because, after all, it was designed to destroy controls– and it just kept destroying even after the New Order folks achieved their goal of ridding the nation of its founding principles.

Eventually the beast burned and looted the entire nation until, today, there is only wilderness where a great nation once stood. No other folks on the planet can come there… it’s too dangerous.

No one lived happily ever after.

The Moral: Don’t forget to install an “OFF” switch if you create a monstrous, brutal beast to achieve your purposes.
